Adding currencies and setting up the main currency
You can specify one main currency on each language version.
The main currency is the currency in which the order is finalised. Customers can’t pay for their order in a different currency than the main currency.
You can also add other currencies on your store. This way, customers who have a card or a bank account in a different currency will be able to see an illustrative price in their local currency.
In this article you will learn:
- How to add a currency
- How to set your main currency
- Use of the currency converter
- Converting product prices in your dashboard
How to add a currency
Go to Settings> Regional> Currencies and click onĀ +add.
Select the currency from the drop-down list, add the symbol and select whether it should be the main currency or not.
If this will not be your main currency, select the exchange rate related to your main currency, then click on Save.
How to set your main currency
When adding or editing a currency, you can specify whether it should be the main currency of the store.
Go to Settings > Regional > Currencies and click edit for the appropriate currency. Select Main Currency and click on Save.
Use of the currency converter
You can convert currencies relative to your main currency.
Consider the examples:
- The main currency is US Dollars and we convert into Euros
- We have two currencies other than US Dollars, e.g. Euros and British Pounds
The main currency is US Dollars and we convert into Euros
Just for the purpose of the example, let’s say 1 EUR costs 1,13 USD.
If the main currency is USD, then in EUR you should enter 0,88.
We have two currencies other than US Dollars, e.g. Euros and British Pounds
Find the exchange rate for both currencies. For example:
If the main currency is USD, then we count the USD to EUR/GBP ratio.
1 GBP = 0,75 USD
1 EUR = 0,88 USD
Converting product prices in your dashboard
If up to now you had Euros as the main currency, after changing the main currency to US Dollars, for example, the prices for products will be the same.
This means that if Product A cost 100 EUR before, it will now cost 100 USD. The amounts are not automatically recalculated when the main currency changes.
If you want to recalculate them, you can export all products to a CSV file, add a new column that will convert the price, import that file and mark the column in which you calculated the conversion rate, as the price.
